The Johnson Riverlee Estate
5 Bedroom Estate
New for 2008 is high-speed satelite internet as well as an eight person exterior Jacuzzi tub.
A charming tree-lined entrance greets you as you enter the Johnson Riverlee Estate from County Road #2. The Adams family owned the residence for over 100 years. The majestic five-bedroom stone home was built in the early 1800s. It is situated on three acres of land and has a beautiful panoramic waterfront view. From the home you can observe the big ships just south of the off-shore island and from the shoreline you have a terrific view of the Ogdensburg/Prescott International bridge to the west.
The stately residence has a lovely eat-in kitchen, formal dining room, huge living room and two updated full bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. The home has new wiring and plumbing and is in good condition. Your guests will be impressed with the calibre of the accommodation.
Hardwood/softwood floors are throughout most of the home, except of course the bathrooms and kitchen! Like the four-bedroom home, a washing machine and dryer is also available on site. Two canoe, a paddeboat and kayak are included in the rental fee. A second kayak and access to the double garage is available upon request.
Many updates have been done to the building over the years including recently re-pointing all the exterior stone work-it looks brand new as well as a newer downstairs bathroom and laundry, expertly refinished floors in the living and dining room, new 200 amp breaker service, new wiring, new plumbing, and a new furnace. In the spring of 2006 we restored the upstairs of the home: We added new interior walls, vapour barrier, drywall and new bedroom closets and restored the pine floors. In 2008 we renovated the kitchen and the kitchen cupboards. We also added central air conditioning to keep you cool for those hot days of summer.
Pretty gardens and mature trees punctuate the landscape. Over the last many months we have planted a dozen evergreen trees as well as oak, maple, birch and ash trees. All this investment has brought the property back up to the five-star accommodation it was many years ago and be yours to enjoy summer after spring, winter after autumn. We are positive you will like the home so much that you will want to come back, year after year!
Along the shoreline we installed a covered canopy to protect you from the sun, allowing you to closely supervise the children as they play along the shoreline or paddle along in the paddleboat in the shallow bay. Take advantage of a canoe or kayak ride to the off-shore islands. Most are uninhabited and home to many small animals and deer. You will feel like you are a pioneer back in the 1700s! FYI: Years ago, the Adams family used to bring their cows to the closest large island each spring by swimming them across the shallow channel behind a small power boat. Therefore the nickname of the main island, Cow Island!
The Riverlee Estate is located in a picturesque shallow bay, with very little boat traffic as the bay ends several hundred yards past the home. The shipping channel is two miles/three kilometres away from both homes, so there is no chance of someone being swamped in a canoe by the waves of a 1000 foot freighter. Bring your fishing rod, the fishing ranges from good to great!
AMENITIES
As mentioned, we have recently added hi-speed satelite internet. The vacation homes are fully equipped, having all modern conveniences including stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, colour televisions, vcr and fully-loaded satellite dish, and dishwashers and last but not least, a coffee maker. The vacation homes are equipped with touch-tone telephones. We have suitable lawn furniture, however if you have a favourite lawn chair you may want to bring it along.
We suggest you bring your own flashlight as well as a barbecue lighter for the barbecue and outdoor fire pit. Technically you need a permit to burn outdoors, however if you are discreet with your campfire, it is not an issue. Bonfires are therefore out of the question! You also need to bring some kindling. We have lots of firewood, however a limited supply of kindling.
Keep in mind that you have use of two canoe, a paddleboat and kayak included in the rental fee. We have six adult life jackets and a few children’s sizes. Since a loose fitting life jacket and a properly fitting life jacket will be the difference between life and death with a child, I would suggest you bring your own if you have ones that fit. Otherwise, go though our collection upon arrival and use all you can. The local hardware store has a good selection to fill in the difference. We may have some fishing gear on site, however cannot guarantee this. Fishing permits are available (nominal fee for Ontario residents/more for out of province/country) at the local McEwen gas bar, a short distance away.
Bed sizes:
We have lots of pillows and blankets. However if you have your favourite, please bring it along. We can provide some king-sized sheets at no extra charge if you are in short supply! We provide everything, including the cutlery. As noted above, we normally ask that you provide bed linen as well as towels. Daily or occasional cleaning service can be arranged upon request, at a slight extra charge, depending on your requirements.
LOCATION
Although we are six kilometres from the highway, we have a central location to four major cities, easily accessible by automobile. Kingston is an hour west and Toronto is 3.5 hours west. We are an hour south of Ottawa and less than two hours east of us to Montreal, 90 minutes from Montreal/Dorval Airport.
There is also a bridge to the United States a few miles away. This rural part of America is home to beautiful landscapes and many tourist attractions.
If you decide to rent one of the homes, we will give you an updated list of some local activities as well as a list of our 150+ videos and DVDs you are welcome to view during your getaway at no extra charge. We even have some children’s films!
We live close to the rental homes, so we can help you with any requests or questions you may have during your visit. We can supply you with a few referrals upon request. As one guest told us “Everything is in good working order and very clean. Another commented, “very conscientious hosts that pay attention to detail.”
We have been renting vacation accommodations for ten years and have many, many satisfied clients. References are available upon request and please, do not be shy to ask for some! If you have any questions you can correspond by e-mail, (We check our e-mail several times per day during business hours) or you can reach us by telephone. If you do not receive a reply by email, please call us-it is quicker and more fun!
Have a fantastic day!
